ClimateHero in new partnership with We Don’t Have Time on climate reporting
ClimateHero is an innovative provider of tools to reduce carbon emissions. To date, more than one million households have used ClimateHero’s carbon calculator to measure and reduce a total of 2.2 million tonnes of CO2 per year. This equals to permanently removing 1.5 million diesel cars from our roads.
Since 2020, the carbon calculator has also been an integrated part of We Don’t Have Time, the world’s largest media platform for climate action. This has resulted in 22 000 tonnes of carbon reduced by the We Don’t Have Time community.
ClimateHero and We Don’t Have Time are now expanding their partnership by launching a carbon accounting and reporting service for companies.
50,000 companies directly affected
The new EU directive for sustainability reporting, Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), makes it mandatory for large companies to disclose their climate impact. And this is just the start. In just a few years time, 50,000 companies that have a presence in the EU will have to annually disclose their climate impact.
Small- and medium-sized companies, SMEs, are not yet required to report under CSRD, but many will feel obliged to do so anyway. SMEs are usually part of a larger supply chain, and will need to calculate their emissions to be able to continue doing business with larger corporations and compete for new contracts. Carbon accounting will also become a hygiene factor for SMEs to keep customers happy, to recruit new talent, and for public procurement deals.
This is why ClimateHero and We Don’t Have Time are now introducing a one stop-shop for carbon accounting and reporting.
Giving clients ownership of sustainability data
ClimateHero offers companies a high-quality carbon accounting service, in which the accounting is conducted with educational support of professional climate consultants, in a calculation model adapted for the specific business logic of the client. The model gives companies ownership of their climate calculations, and provides them with the opportunity to do the next year’s follow-up in-house.
Included in this offer is a two-year partnership with We Don’t Have Time. This means companies will be able to communicate their sustainability work on the world’s largest media platform for climate solutions, be part of a unique ranking system, and get widespread visibility for their climate action.
Ingmar Rentzhog is the founder and CEO of We Don’t Have Time. He says: ” We have tried out various ways of measuring our company’s carbon footprint, but none have been satisfactory. Automated cloud services can be cheap and fast, but they are often not detailed enough, and their use of standardized estimates can lead to your company getting a worse climate score on paper than in reality. ClimateHero’s way of calculating a company’s emissions not only results in more accurate numbers, but it also provides an explanation and understanding of the whole entity. This, in turn, will give companies valuable insights on how to further reduce its emissions in the most cost-effective way, while at the same time facilitating next year’s accounting and reporting.”
Robert Sabelström, CEO and founder of ClimateHero, adds: ” We are proud to be able to offer companies an effective and sustainable solution for their climate accounting. Our unique model gives companies ownership of their climate calculations, as well as the opportunity to operate more sustainably, to the benefit of both the climate and the company brand. But in order to drive real change and inspire others to follow, companies also need to communicate their climate progress. Our extended partnership with We Don’t Have Time provides our customers with the perfect solution for this kind of communication.”

VATI of Sweden and ClimateHero form partnership to accelerate climate transition and promote sustainability
February 7, 2024 - VATI of Sweden and ClimateHero, two prominent players in the climate transition and sustainability sector, initiated a fruitful partnership in 2023 to enhance opportunities for climate transition and promote sustainable business practices.
The partnership brings together VATI of Sweden's expertise in education and ISO 26000 verification with ClimateHero's leading knowledge in climate calculation and footprint reduction. Through close collaboration, they have actively tested and validated each other's services, recognizing the tangible benefits that arise from the synergy of their combined expertise. Together, they strive to develop and offer integrated solutions that support companies and organizations in actively reducing and calculating their carbon footprints while ensuring increased transparency and credibility in their sustainability reporting.
VATI of Sweden and VERIFY Agency of Sweden have a long history of commitment to sustainability and climate transition. Through this partnership, they position themselves to offer a broader and more comprehensive solution for companies striving to take active responsibility for their environmental impact and contribute to a sustainable future.
"We are excited about this partnership with ClimateHero. ClimateHero is a leading player in the climate transition, and we look forward to leveraging their expertise to support our clients in reducing their carbon footprints. Together, we can make a real difference for the climate and contribute to a sustainable future," says Eva Vati, founder and CEO of VATI of Sweden and VERIFY Agency of Sweden.
Robert Sabelström, CEO of ClimateHero, shares this enthusiasm: "We are equally excited about this partnership. By combining our strengths, we will be able to offer powerful solutions that help companies calculate and reduce their carbon footprints, and ensure the authenticity of contributions to increased sustainability through policies and strategies."
Within the framework of the partnership, VATI and ClimateHero will collaborate in the following areas:
Education and support: Offer companies and organizations education and support to integrate sustainability into their business strategies.
Climate calculation and reduction: Assist companies and organizations in calculating and reducing their carbon footprint.
Verification of sustainability efforts: Through VERIFY Agency, offer companies verification of their sustainability efforts for increased transparency and reliability.
This partnership not only strengthens the companies' commitment to a more sustainable and responsible future but also marks an important milestone in ClimateHero's and VATI of Sweden's journey towards increased credibility and transparency.
ClimateHero obtains ISO 26000 verification from VERIFY Agency
ClimateHero has verified its self-declaration through Verify Agency and has become ISO 26000-verified. This verification is based on ISO 26000, an international sustainability standard that emphasizes organizations' social, environmental, and economic responsibilities. ISO 26000 is known as a guiding standard rather than a requirement standard, meaning that companies cannot certify against it. Instead, they can choose to verify their self-declaration linked to the standard, which includes global sustainability goals. The verification focuses on confirming the company's claims, such as sustainability reports and self-declarations, and differs from certification by allowing a clear illumination of the company's unique strengths and sustainability efforts.
By becoming verified, businesses' sustainability efforts can be presented in a more transparent and reliable manner, thus avoiding greenwashing. This will become increasingly important for companies as the market becomes more regulated, such as with the EU's new sustainability directive "Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
Robert Sabelström, CEO of ClimateHero, comments on this: "ClimateHero's goal is to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, and sustainability is a natural part of our company's DNA. Being a role model and acting sustainably in everything we do is vital to us, and therefore, it is natural to have our sustainability efforts reviewed by an accredited third party. It is an essential quality stamp, just like what we provide when we help other companies calculate and declare their climate impact. The value for our partnership is both transparency and reliability for our joint efforts."
VATI companies calculate the carbon footprint with the help of ClimateHero
The EU's new legislation for sustainability reporting (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) makes it mandatory for large companies from this year to calculate emissions in their own value chain (including both direct and indirect emissions). This is important even for small and medium-sized companies that want to prioritize their own climate work based on a comprehensive analysis and communicate climate goals and progress to stakeholders in a transparent and credible manner. For VATI, it has been important to conduct this survey even though the company's carbon footprint is currently small.
"We are pleased to have been able to calculate our carbon footprint with the help of ClimateHero. It gives us a good overview of our climate impact and helps us set goals to reduce it. We are committed to doing our part to contribute to a more sustainable future," says Eva Vati, founder and CEO of VATI of Sweden.
The calculations are made for the year 2022 and include VATI of Sweden Holding AB, where the group company and VATI of Sweden AB and Verify Agency of Sweden AB are included.

ClimateHero Celebrates Massive Milestone: Has Helped 1 Million Households Reduce Their Carbon Emissions
The rapidly growing impact company, ClimateHero, proudly announces that over 1 million households have now used ClimateHero's carbon calculator to measure and reduce their carbon footprint. These households have selected climate pledges promising to reduce their combined carbon footprint by 2.1 million tons of CO2 per year. This is equivalent to the emissions reduction achieved by permanently removing 1.4 million diesel cars from our roads.
ClimateHero's carbon calculator, available in English, German, Spanish, and Swedish, empowers individuals worldwide to make informed decisions about their carbon footprint and take meaningful steps towards a more sustainable future.
Key Highlights
1 Million Users: ClimateHero has reached a significant milestone with 1 million households calculating their carbon footprint.
2.1 Million Ton CO2 Reduction: Users collectively commit to an annual reduction of 2.1 million tons of CO2, making a significant contribution to climate transition.
Equivalent of Removing 1.4 Million Diesel Cars: The scale of CO2 reduction achieved is equivalent to taking 1.4 million diesel cars off the roads.
Multilingual Platform: ClimateHero's carbon calculator is accessible to users globally, offering language options in English, German, Spanish, and Swedish. In 2024, ClimateHero will also be available in French, Italian, and Portuguese.
" We are thrilled to reach this milestone and witness the collective impact our users are making in the fight against climate change," said Robert Sabelström, Founder and CEO at ClimateHero. " The commitment of 1 million users to reduce their carbon footprint is tangible. Together, we are making a real difference."
Why does ClimateHero help households cut their carbon footprint? Isn't it the responsibility of companies or politicians?
ClimateHero's perspective aligns with the Exponential Roadmap initiative, backed by Johan Rockström and Christiana Figueres, showing that we can achieve the 1.5-degree target by halving global carbon emissions every decade.
ClimateHero believes that to gain momentum in this exponential transition, the entire socio-economic triad must interact:
Legislators (politicians, authorities) - must correct where the market fails and set rules that encourage climate-smart solutions while penalizing environmental degradation.
Producers (companies and the public sector) - need to take responsibility for the carbon emissions their products and services cause and transition to fossil-free solutions. Furthermore, they need to influence their stakeholders (suppliers, customers, partners, etc.).
Consumers (you and me) - need to reduce our carbon footprints through lifestyle changes, resolutely demand climate-smart solutions (from producers), and democratically influence (legislators) to act.

Analysis: 2023 Set to Mark the Trend of Circular Christmas Gifts
The global campaign 'Circular Monday,' which took place the Monday before Black Friday, reached over 4 million individuals in Sweden—equivalent to half of the country's adult population. Amidst the peak of the holiday shopping season, current figures indicate a high interest in circular consumption, prompting the presentation of our top suggestions for low-carbon footprint Christmas gifts.
Image by Ylanite Koppens from Pixabay
Over 200,000 households in Sweden have utilized ClimateHero's climate calculator to assess and reduce their carbon footprint. Of the climate commitments made by households, a shift towards circular consumption ranks among the most common. In total, 43% of households have expressed intentions to increase their second-hand shopping to diminish their climate impact.
Simultaneously, a prevailing economic downturn is affecting many wallets and the capacity for gift-giving. Opting for a circular Christmas gift, such as a second-hand item, is not only budget-friendly but, more importantly, environmentally conscious.
The non-profit campaign Circular Monday, organized by ClimateHero, engaged 998 companies, 164 influencers, and 106 organizations across 40 countries—with Sweden, India, and England among the leading nations after the USA. Out of the 13 million globally exposed to the campaign on social media, 4 million were in Sweden. Furthermore, data from Kairos Future's "Framtidsbarometern" reveals that Swedish leaders exhibit a clear interest in circular economics and sustainable Christmas gifts, with over half of Swedish executives considering giving circular presents.
The interest in circular economics and consumption is evidently substantial.
Why Opt for a Circular Christmas Gift?
A circular Christmas gift is one that is not newly produced, thus not depleting Earth's already limited resources. On August 2, Earth experienced "Overshoot Day," the point where our planet can no longer regenerate the renewable resources needed for our consumption and production. Sweden's Overshoot Day occurred as early as April 3. In other words, we are living on credit with our renewable resources.
Choosing to exchange Christmas gifts in a circular manner ensures that we are not indebting future generations but are operating within a budget we can afford. This may involve buying second-hand items, providing a service, borrowing, exchanging, renting, giving or receiving a subscription, repairing, upcycling, or remaking.
5 Examples of Circular Gifts Under Swedish Trees This Year:
Time: Gift your time instead of a physical item, whether it's something homemade, assistance with a task, or quality time.
Second Hand: Opt for second-hand toys, Lego, and board games, as they are popular choices.
Vouchers for Repair or Subscriptions: Consider gifting vouchers for repair services or subscriptions to various rental services, such as clothing, children's clothing, and tools. Visit circularmonday.com for ideas.
A Service: The environmental impact and resource utilization of experiences like a film, massage, or theater performance are significantly lower per unit currency spent than a newly produced physical gift.
Contribution or Gift to a Charity Organization: Consider climate compensation or contributing to a charitable organization.
"As we approach this year's holiday season, it's particularly gratifying to see the strong interest and attitude towards circular economics and consumption. Perhaps it's an effect of the economic situation; regardless, we are moving in the right direction. The fact is that we save a significant portion of the CO2 footprint by choosing a circular Christmas gift over a newly produced one. For me, the choice is very straightforward—a gift for you, me, the planet, and our future. A Christmas with a clear conscience is the best comfort." says Alexandra Davidsson, Co-founder of Circular Monday and ClimateHero.

12% of the service sector's total emissions come from IT
A significant portion of corporate emissions comes from IT management. This is asserted by Inrego in a new survey of the total emissions of Swedish service companies conducted by ClimateHero.
Emissions from IT may be larger than many realize. In a study commissioned by Inrego, ClimateHero has mapped the emissions from Swedish service companies. The purpose of the study (in Swedish) was to understand the IT hardware's share of the total carbon footprint. The report indicates that between 3–33% of service companies' total emissions come from the purchase of IT hardware, with an average of 12%.
" Reconditioned is unbeatable – both in terms of price and for the planet. Here, we see that the purchase of new IT is a frighteningly high emission factor among Swedish service companies today," says Sebastian Holmström, Sustainability Manager at Inrego.
Each employee is estimated to have a total carbon footprint averaging 1.9 tons of CO2e per year. Business and commuting trips account for just over one ton, and 235 kg is estimated to come from purchased IT equipment. If all computers, screens, and mobile phones were purchased reconditioned rather than newly produced, the average carbon footprint per employee and year would instead be 17 kg for IT hardware.
"The trend of fewer business trips and more hybrid work creates favorable conditions for reducing a significant portion of service companies' carbon footprints. If combined with other measures such as reuse and purchasing reconditioned IT hardware, many service companies will be able to achieve a carbon footprint of around 0.5 tons of CO2 per employee per year [rather than 1.9 tons]. Overall, there is enormous potential for savings that many companies can achieve here and now," says Emma Stålmarck, Head of B2B at ClimateHero.
About the Report and ClimateHero
ClimateHero assists businesses and individuals in reducing their carbon footprint based on the current measured situation. In the work on the report, figures from public sources such as SCB (Statistics Sweden) and the Swedish Energy Agency have been used to the extent relevant data was available. These data have then been supplemented and compared with ClimateHero's customer data from service companies.
About Inrego
Inrego offers world-leading circular IT solutions to sustainable businesses and organizations. The company purchases used IT equipment from both companies and the public sector, securely erases data, reconditions, and resells. In business since 1995, the company breathes new life into around half a million IT products this year, thanks to businesses and organizations choosing to sell their used products and buy reused.

Circular Monday challenges Black Friday, for the sake of reaching climate targets
On November 20th, it's Circular Monday. A global campaign that, for the seventh consecutive year, highlights circular consumption and makes it simple for consumers to become "circulents," a necessary transition to achieve net-zero emissions. The event involves over 1200 companies, organizations, and influencers from more than 30 countries.
Circular Monday has been described over the years as "a counteraction to Black Friday," but rather serves as a solution to the overconsumption of newly produced items often resulting from Black Friday. Circular Monday makes it easy for the average person to find alternatives in goods and services that do not deplete the Earth's limited resources.
"According to Oxfam, 50% of the world's climate emissions are caused by just 10% of the global population. It's the wealthiest part, which includes you, me, and essentially everyone in the Western world who has a home and a monthly income. To manage the climate transition, we need to shift from being consumers to becoming 'circulants' and significantly reduce our consumption-based emissions. Circular Monday not only simplifies this but also helps balance the shopping frenzy we are fed with before Black Friday and the impending holiday season. Therefore, ClimateHero has chosen to organize the #CircularMonday campaign globally because without a shift from linear to circular consumption, we cannot resolve the climate crisis."says Robert Sabelström, Founder and CEO of ClimateHero.
Globally, the world has shifted from being 9.1% circular in 2018 to only 7.2% this year. Simultaneously, it's known that a circular economy is a crucial key to achieving net-zero emissions by 2045. According to the "Carbon Law" from the Exponential Roadmap Initiative, an initial halving of our climate emissions is needed by 2030, followed by continued halving every decade.
" Looking at Sweden's figures in the Circularity Gap Report, we see that we are only 3.4% circular. We don't need more shopping days that promote the overconsumption of things we don't need. However, we do need to spread knowledge and make it easy to find all the fun and fantastic circular alternatives out there. That's why Cradlenet chooses to participate and drive Circular Monday," says Elin Bergman, COO of Cradlenet.
Circular Monday: A campaign that has evolved into a global movement
Circular Monday was founded in 2017 by Henning Gillberg in Malmö. Shortly after, Alexandra Davidsson co-founded the campaign, partly driving it through the organization Medveten Konsumtion. From 2023, the campaign is organized through ClimateHero, an impact startup co-founded by Alexandra Davidsson.
The campaign's database gathers over 1200 participating companies, organizations, and influencers from over 30 countries, several of which offer circular try-out discounts on reused items, rental and sharing services, and repairs—a consumption that simply doesn't require new raw materials or result in any waste.
Consumption that doesn't result in waste is an important step toward achieving global sustainability goals. In fact, the Paris Agreement aims to regulate territorial emissions, and no government has yet set precise goals to reduce consumption-based emissions. One can consume as many products as they want as long as these products aren't produced within the country's borders. Similarly, unlimited international travel is possible because it doesn't fall under the regulated territorial emissions.
Therefore, reuse is the future. A report from thredUP shows that the resale market is growing five times faster than the linear market in many areas. Moreover, more people are becoming aware that the production of new products accounts for the majority of climate emissions during a product's lifecycle. Fresh figures from Inrego show that a reused IT product has as much as an 85% lower carbon footprint than a new one. A circular economy needs to be promoted, where extended product lifecycles and reuse become the norm.
"Transitioning to a circular economy presents enormous business opportunities and is simultaneously a cheap and effective way to rapidly reduce our climate emissions. According to a recent analysis from Summa Equity, 1.4 percent of the EU's GDP would be enough to transition the entire Europe to a circular economy. This would simultaneously reduce our emissions by 55 percent and make us 80 percent self-sufficient in materials. It's a no-brainer, so what are we waiting for?" says Ingmar Rentzhog, CEO, and Founder of We Don't Have Time.
