About ClimateHero

ClimateHero is a fast-growing impact startup with a mission to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. We strive to achieve our mission by helping individuals and companies to:

  • Calculate their carbon footprints
  • Commit to reduce their emissions
  • Contribute to global net zero emissions

We help our business clients with carbon reporting, environmental life cycle analysis, and engaging their employees and customers on the journey to net zero. Read more.

We are based in Stockholm, but we have global reach. We don't expect to influence all of earth's inhabitants, instead we focus on the 10% who, through their consumption, (according to World Inequality Report) drives 50% of global emissions. These 10% includes most people in the Western world. Our overall objective is to influence 100 million households by 2030.

ClimateHero is driven by environmentally conscious entrepreneurs with a shared mission to tackle the defining challenge of our generation. The first service launched to meet this mission is the ClimateHero Carbon Calculator, designed to help people easily understand their climate impact and take smart steps to reduce it. The second service introduced helps businesses and organizations calculate, measure and reduce their carbon footprint.

Sustainability

Sustainability is embedded in the DNA of ClimateHero. Our mission and strategy are fully oriented towards addressing the climate crisis (SDG 13 - "Climate Action"). This means that climate impact and business aspects are equally weighted, and are present in all decisions made, and in the strategic goals we pursue.

ClimateHero's work in solving the climate crisis also has an indirect positive impact on several other global sustainability goals (SDGs), especially:

  • SDG 3 - Good Health and Well-being
  • SDG 7 - Affordable and Clean Energy
  • SDG 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities
  • SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production
  • SDG 15 - Life on Land

To illustrate, individuals are presented with suggestions for making lifestyle changes to reduce their carbon footprint. These recommendations can serve a dual purpose, promoting better health by, for instance, reducing red meat consumption, and contributing to sustainable consumption practices such as repairing and maintaining items rather than buying new ones.

In addition to engaging individuals and businesses in the climate transition, ClimateHero works to monitor and minimize the environmental impact of our own operations. For instance, this includes primarily purchasing second hand IT equipment and having a strict travel policy that does not allow air travel. (Read more in ClimateHero's climate report below).

Our sustainability efforts follow ISO 26000, which guides companies to expand their societal responsibility and maximize their contribution to sustainable development. Our self-declaration is published annually, SIS/TS 2:2021 to SS-EN ISO 26000:2021, and verified by an independent party (see links below).

ClimateHero's guiding principles for social, environmental, and economic sustainability are further described in our Code of Conduct (see link below).

How was ClimateHero founded?

The service is run through the Swedish company Climate Hero AB, which was founded in 2018 for the Swedish market and is now expanding internationally to reach as many of the planet’s inhabitants as possible.

The company was founded by spouses Anna and Robert Sabelström, who has 15+ years of experience in digital innovation and sustainability issues. The idea for ClimateHero came to Robert when he was calculating his own footprint and realized how large it was.

ClimateHero is a fast-growing digital start-up with the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. By helping people calculate and reduce their climate footprints, we create tangible change. We are neither politically nor non-profit affiliated and have not yet taken in any external capital, giving us the freedom to develop the service without external agendas or grants. As a private company, we generate our own revenue, which is reinvested into the business to improve the service and reach more people—so that more can understand and reduce their climate impact.
